HCCREMS facilitates and participates in a number of regional networks in order to progress projects and coordinate environmental management efforts in our region. Current project networks are listed below:

Directors Forum

The Directors of Planning & Environment from each of the 14 HCCREMS member councils meet quarterly to provide strategic guidance and support to the HCCREMS team and its projects.  The current HCCREMS three (3) year strategic plan can be viewed by clicking on the following link:-

Regional Environmental Educators Network

This is comprised of Environmental Educators from each of the 14 member councils.

The Network’s purpose is to:

  • Share resources of common interest (eg: brochures & education kits)
  • Share experiences regarding the success or failure of individual Council and regional projects
  • Undertake professional development (eg: guest speakers and training opportunities)
  • Seek to raise the capacity of all member Councils in relation to environmental education
  • Deliver regional education projects
  • Provides valuable feedback to Focus On Sustainability

Regional Weeds Managers Professional Team

This is comprised of the Managers of the Weeds Officers from the following Councils and the Upper Hunter Weeds Authority (Singleton, Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter Councils):

  • Gosford
  • Wyong
  • Lake Macquarie
  • Newcastle
  • Port Stephens
  • Maitland
  • Cessnock
  • Dungog
  • Upper Hunter Weeds Authority

The Network's purpose is to guide the restructure and ongoing management of the Lower Hunter Central Coast Regional Weeds Management Program. Managers meet regularly and manage the new Regional Weeds Management Program including:

  • The design, development and implementation of the overall strategic plan for the Program
  • The design, development and implementation of weeds management plans
  • Managing Weed’s Officers roles and responsibilities to the Regional Program
  • Identifying new project and funding opportunities and acting on them

Regional Weeds Technical Officers Group

This is comprised of the Chief Weeds Officer from the following Councils and the UHWA (Singleton, Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter Councils):

  • Gosford
  • Wyong
  • Lake Macquarie
  • Newcastle
  • Port Stephens
  • Maitland
  • Cessnock
  • Dungog
  • Upper Hunter Weeds Authority
The network's purpose is to:
  • To provide technical advice and support to the Regional Weeds Management Professional Team
  • Professional liaison and information exchange between officers
  • To liaise and network with other stakeholder organisations in order to collaborate on implementation of the Regional Weeds Management program
  • Where appropriate, to facilitate a coordinated approach to community education across the region

Regional Compliance Officers Network 

This is currently facilitated by HCCREMS to assist in the design, development and delivery of environmental compliance activities and projects across the region.

Current activities undertaken by the network are:

  • Design and implementation of community awareness campaigns on issues of illegal dumping, illegal clearing and illegal earthworks
  • Assistance with design and collation of standard conditions of consent
  • Assistance with identification and example uses of various legislative mechanisms used to enforce remediation of land illegally cleared.

Any staff working in the planning or compliance fields in councils throughout the region is welcome to join the network.

Coastal Council Sea Level Rise Network 

To promote cross council consistency in adaptation responses to the challenge of Sea Level and the councils involved are Gosford, Wyong, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Port Stephens, Great Lakes and Greater Taree.
