Current Activities

The FOCUS on Sustainability Program is developing and delivering the following projects to member councils related to Environmental Education.

FOCUS on Energy Reduction - An Energy Reduction Kit, which promotes energy reduction in the home has been developed and is available from 62 libraries and 2 council customer service desks across the region. It's Better in Your Hip Pocket - This regional campaign delivers a series of FREE workshops being delivered through libraries, to help people save serious money on their energy and water bills - by reducing energy and water consumption.

Community Climate Change - a Community Climate Change presentation for use by council staff when presenting climate change information to the community is available for council educators to utilise.  The presentation provides key information on climate change science, global issues, local issues and outcomes of regional research.  Details of the presentation are found by clicking the title or reviewing the 'Projects Portfolio' on the left-hand menu.

A Guide to Rural Residential Living - is designed especially for those living on rural residential properties and brings together in one central location a range of useful information and resources to assist rural landowners enjoy the rural lifestyle they have chosen and to achieve the personal goals set for their property. These could include raising livestock, keeping horses, growing your own food or recreating a personal patch of the Australian bush. In particular, the Guide aims to ensure these activities complement the natural environment and local community.

Sustainability Education - Councils, through their involvement in the Regional Educators Network, are identifying a number of issues they require assistance to develop materials and projects on for delivery to their communities.  Specific projects are developed with input from all councils.  To date, information on government rebates, waster sensitive urban design and myna birds has been developed.  Details of the materials are included in the resources library, access by clicking the title or reviewing the 'Education Resources' on the left-hand menu.

Turning The Pages - Is a community arts project within the Upper Hunter that has brought together the residents, businesses, schools, State and Local Agencies, and the arts community of the township of Murrurundi, to work together on promoting the value of the Pages River.  Details of the project are found by clicking the title or reviewing the 'Projects Portfolio' on the left-hand menu
