Program Overview
The FOCUS on Sustainability program, includes the design and implementation of a number of community arts and environmental education programs focussed on raising community awareness of environmental and sustainability issues, increasing knowledge about the impacts society has on the environment, and changing behaviour of people to protect the natural environment of the Hunter and Central Coast Region.
A number of projects including councils and community groups are in development. Project activities include:
- Working with active community groups to mobilise schools and general public to develop installation art which highlights local environmental issues
- Development of kits to assist home owners to assess their energy consumption – and making them available through libraries across the region
- Development of general educational products including fact sheets and other awareness raising materials.
The activities undertaken in this program are designed to include members of the general public in the decision making process and to empower them to make a positive change in their local area. HCCREMS is working directly with councils ensure they have the tools and resources to support community learning and involment in sustainability issues.
