A new weed has been found on the North and Mid-North Coast areas of New South Wales, Tropical Soda Apple (Solanum viarum).

The most significant infestation is in the Macleay Catchment above Kempsey, patches have also been found near Grafton, Coffs harbour, and the Wingham, Kempsey, Grafton Saleyards.  High risk sites for inspection, include cattle saleyards, abattoirs and stock yards. With cattle being sold out of the Kempsey and north coast regions the species may already be present  in the Hunter region
